Block 18 is in deepwaters and is located between the Kwanza and Congo basins. The water depth in this block varies between 750-1,750 meters.

In September 1996 the Block was adjudicated to Amoco (operator) and Shell (partner). The contractor group drilled ten wells all f which were considered commercial discoveries. These wells targeted mostly the Oligocene, whose oil varies from 31 to 38º API. The oil found in Miocene reservoirs is of 24º API.
