Block 47 is located in the ultra-deepater offshore Lower Congo Basin, South of Congo River, some 450 km northwest of Luanda and 200 km West of Soyo onshore facilities. The water deph in the block is around 2,500 meters.

The block predominantly encompasses a tertiary basin.The Block has many similarities to its northern counterpart (Block46), but displays the ocean bottom escarpment more distinctly. Numerous leads are recognized on the block in OligoMiocene channel/lobe complexes associated with salt diapir crests and flanks.This Block potential have similarities to successful plays in the adjacent blocks.
