Block 48 is located in the ultra-deepater offshore Lower Congo Basin, South of Congo River, some 400 km northwest of Luanda and 200 km West of Soyo onshore facilities. The water depth in the block is around 2,500 meters.

Principal plays are recognized in Miocene and Oligocene channel/lobe systems with potential large entrapped hydrocarbon columns in the block´s outer fold belt and abyssal plain.In summary,maturity modeling studies (1D and 3D) conducted in the block suggest that there has been hydrocarbon generation from Postsalt sources and pathways for migration have been identified.
