Throughout the 1970s and the 1980s oil derivatives by Mobil and Shell Company dominated the downstream market in Angola. To counteract it and after having acquired professional experince in the area, Sonangol took the business decision to produce lubricants in the country; a long process that demanded serious research and that took it's time to be executed.
It wasn't until November 9, 1989 that Sonangol launched lubricants Ngol - a variety of waxes greases and lubricants . Lubricants Ngol are locally manufactured in Luanda at the Mulemba's factory, a facility with high-tech equipment and ISO 9000 certified.
This line of refined products includes a wide range of lubricants for automotive (vehicles, tractors and trucks), industrial and nautical gears. Initially classified as mono-grade for diesel and gasoline engines, over time Ngol products improved in quality and most are now classified as multigraded, semi-synthetical and synthetic - therefore meeting the standards of machinery manufactures.
To improve the packaging of our lubricants, in September 2003 Sonangol subtituted the old metallic canisters by plastic containers with 1 and 4 liters capacity. In July 2005, bigger plastic containers (the 20 liters) were introduced in the market. The new containers were considered to be more attractive, practical, easier to carry and cheaper to produce.
In 2006, Sonangol added yet another line to lubricants Ngol: Gama GOLD - top range and highy quality synthetic lubricants. Gold label lubricants are intended for fast driving gasoline engines (either turbocharged or naturally aspirated), and for high powered diesel engines (turbocharged or naturally aspirated) used for driving under severe conditions.
